House Pictures (Finally)

Here is our foyer. This is view from the front door (standing on the porch. We absolutely love the wood work; it's all orignal and in great shape. On the other hand, the wallpaper is pretty awful. If you can't tell, it is ferns in two hideous shades of green. It will be tackled as soon as we get a visitor that is adept at wallpapering. I try not to complain about it too much because I am unable (read unwilling) to replace it myself.
If you turn to the left from our entry way you will be looking at this view.

This is the room we were painting in the pitcures in the first post. We had to rearrange things, but we to call of our furniture in there with a little room to spare. It's very comfortable and we spend most of our time here. The other shot was taken from the doorway to the dining room (to the right of the green chairs).

The double doors are beautiful and the only woodwork in the living room that hasn't been painted over. We keep them closed both for decoration and to keep the bats downstairs (God forbid there should be anymore) . The living room also has a fireplace, which is on the wall you can't see in these pictures. It is currently without an inset and is completely sealed up, but will be a nice focal point of the room if we are able to get it working this winter. Around the corner from the living room is the dining room. The first pitcure is the view from the door way between the two.

The walls are a pale yellow, which is starting to grow on us. We have actually been eating dinners in there instead of infront of the T.V. or at the office now that we are on a better scedule than in grad school. It feels very civilized. The second picture is from the back wall looking in. The curtain in the doorway is another bat containment tool. It was the best we could think of and it kind of goes with the living room colors. We'll take it down when the bats go wherever they go for the winter. The top hinge on the china cabnit was broken in the move, but Susie put her Ms. Fix-it skills to work and now it's back in working order. Also, those bottles of wine on top are all local. (Just a reminder for you wine fans out there).
On through the dining room is the kitchen. It will be a work in progress for us as time goes on.

Once again the first picture is from the doorway and the other is from the far wall. The paint is one shade of the yellow, the tile is another. The wallpaper is red and the panel behind the stove is a burnt orange. The room would really benefit from some continuity.

Also, the stove is about half the size it ought to be, so we are looking into getting a full-sized one. The sink on the other hand is huge and while the cabinets aren't the most attactive, there are plenty of them to go around. We are also pulling for a dishwasher sometime in the future, but you'll have to stay tuned to see what happens with this room.
Now upstairs! Our bedroom is at the top of the stairs and across the hallway.

We spent a lot of time getting it painted and all the furniture arranged. We build most if it around a really cool tapestry Susie got while she was in England. We hate any light in the room while we are sleeping so we hung some thick curtains and painted the room a dark blue.

Its very soothing! The three views pictured here are from the doorway and then from in front of each window. The window unit and fan are a little unsightly, but they don't have central air up here so we will just have to deal with it for another few weeks.

Other than that we are very happy with how well this room has come together.
The final stop on our tour is the room that give us the most problems right now. . . The bathroom! As you can see from the first picture, it is hideously pink!
Then, as if that wasn't enough, the door is painted purple. Since much of the pink is found the tile we appear to be stuck with it, at least for now. The one thing we simply can't live with is the shower.

Look closely at the second picture and you will see that the pitch of our "barn" style roof means the wall begins to slant in just about waist level and by the time it reached the top of the shower it comes to a pretty slim point. This makes showering a very claustrophobic experience for Rach, but Susie has to go so far as to crouch at times. Needless to say this will be our first major project. We have a contractor coming out later this week to tell us about our options and the various costs associated with them. Keep your fingers crossed that we'll be able to shower upright soon!
So there you have it. Well, most of it anyway. We are still working on the porch and office. We really hope that someone comes to visit soon so we are forced to finish up the guest room as well. In the meantime we'll keep you posted on any changes we make!
