Thanksgiving
Dad Spangler picked us up in Bloomington on Monday and we had a fabulous lunch at Biaggi's before heading back to Carlinville, where Dad fed us again with an awesome roast and all the trimmings. He obviously has read the blog and realizes we plan much of our travels around food.
Tuesday we headed down to see Tony aka "the God of Hair" who took pity on us even though we were late for our appointment. Rachel had committed the cardinal sin of getting her hair cut during the playoffs about six weeks ago and was punished with the worst hair cut of her life. Susie (while laughing so hard she almost passed out) pointed out that it was well deserved because every sports fan knows it's bad luck to cut your hair during the playoffs. Anyway, the lopsided flat top had grown out a little bit, and Tony worked wonders with both of us, as always.
On the way back we satisfied another food craving and stopped at Steak-n-Shake. You see there is no Steak-n-Shake in New York; the closest one is almost 4 hours away, so we were very content to get our steakburger and bit 'n pieces milkshake.
Wednesday we got caught up with Mom Spangler about her trip to see Oprah and Paula Deen, and we stopped in at the daycare to play with the babies for a while. It made our day to just go from one baby to the next, playing and cuddling. That night we had all the Spanglers over for a wonderful dinner. It was so nice to see all the aunts and uncles, and as always we laughed so hard we could barely breathe.
Thanksgiving was spent with the Bloomes. As usual Mom Bloome put together a feast fit for kings. We all stuffed ourselves and spent the afternoon catching up with Susie's family. Uncle Charlie and Rach had a bet going that cannot be repeated on the blog, but Rachel kept her five dollars, much to her disappointment.
That evening we stopped by the Spangler side of the family to see all the kids. We filled up on our second helping of Thanksgiving food and visited with everyone for a while. This is where we got our one and only picture before the camera batteries died on us. Here is little Aiden striking a pose for us. What a ham!
It was a very nice holiday all around, but we had to turn in early because we were both still dealing with the remnants of some pretty rough sinus infections.
Friday was more relaxed. We met the Bloomes for lunch to get our Carlinville fix by eating at Taylor's Chili, then we spent most of the afternoon lounging around. We gorged ourselves one more time on the "back up turkey" from the day before and then headed off to Angie and Jerry's for the night.
Angie and Mom Bloome took us to catch the train in Springfield. With airline prices being through the roof the weekend after Thanksgiving, we had bought our train tickets back in August and got a pretty good deal. We had a long layover in Chicago, which were were looking forward to, so we bummed around in Boystown for a while before heading to Maggiano's for dinner.
The train ride back was neat experience. We had a small sleeper room with a sink and toilet. By day it is two seats facing each other, but by night the seats fold into a bed and a top bunk is pulled down from the ceiling. We got on the train at 8:00 pm and then slept most of the time until we arrived in Buffalo around 8:00 am the next morning. The tickets also included dinner and a breakfast as well as complimentary drinks the whole ride. Not a bad way to go!
