Adventures in Drywalling

We have stripped all the wallpaper from the foyer and stairway, Hurray! It was a fight, but it's gone now, so we moved on to our next stage in the project and this one was a lot more ambitious.

Apparently the people that had the house before us worked on the bathroom plumbing by going through the wall in the stairway. They then lost their desire to continue the repairs and just covered the wall with this . . . well I'm not sure what it is, but it seems like a piece of styrofoam covered in a sheet.

So, we decided this had to go and ripped it off when we were stripping the wallpaper, which left this major hole and all the exposed pipes.

Thankfully, Rachel has some experience drywalling from working with Habitat for Humanity (never mind the fact that she did very badly at it) and Susie helped her dad build a house (in fifth grade) so we felt confident that we could fix it.

We measured twice and cut once, and all that good stuff. Got to use our new drill and utility knife and other fun tools. Then we taped and "mudded" the whole thing. While we aren't ready to trade in our day jobs for a career in construction, we can't help but be a little impressed with our own accomplishment!

Pretty impressive, huh?

Today we covered the whole area top to bottom in Kilz and we are looking forward to a visit from Mom and Dad Bloome and Angie to help us put up the new wallpaper.

In the meantime, to reward ourselves for all the progress we've made, we are off to Cleveland for the weekend.

We'll post pictures when we get home!
