A night with the cool kids
So we have both been fighting sinus infections and agressive eyelashes and haven't had much time for adventure this week. We did make it up to Buffalo on Friday night, which was a treat! We were introduced to a really neat part of town that is by the University of Buffalo. The area is a lot like U-City in St. Louis but is a little older. We were with a group of people, two of whom recently returned from India, so they decided to take us to India Gate for our first taste of
Indian food. We were a little (read a lot) nervous about this because we like hanging out with the cool kids and the cool kids like Indian
food, but we were pretty sure we didn't care for Indian food.
After getting some advice from everyone at the table, Rachel ordered Tandoori Chicken. As you can see in the picture to the left, tandoori chicken is bright red, and one could easily assume it would be spicy, but it's not! It was actually pretty good. The spice rub that makes it red makes it very flavorful and it was served with white rice and bread, and any time you can put carbs with carbs we are pretty happy.
Susie also asked people for suggestions, but decided at the last mintue to go with the Seekh Kabob instead. Perhaps I should preface this by telling the story of our trip to San Fransisco. where we followed the cool kids to an Afghani Restuarant (I know, food from countries where people are starving, who new). Susie got what looked very much like poop on lettuce. It was funny, if you weren't Susie, but the story became even funnier when her food arrived Friday.
As you can see from this little picture it also looks remarkably like poop. In fact, the order Susie got was a little thicker and a little darker, and were it not served atop onions and peppers, I think we probably would have assumed it was poop. With that said, Susie ate it and loved it. She even had her leftovers for lunch the next day for lunch and claims it was delicious.
After finishing up our dinner, and privately discussing Susie's ability to find food that looks like poop and any foreign restaurant, we walked down to the Albright-Knox art galley, where our friend Aimee was giving a reading with the poetry bus tour. She rocked! Her poetry is fun and socially aware, and we enjoyed it greatly. The other 5 people we had to sit through in order to hear her were not as enjoyable. They bordered on pretentious, self-indulgent, and emotional vomiting. We almost had to leave a one point as Susie got the giggles and couldn't contain them. Rachel had to think of all kinds of sad things in order to keep herself from laughing as well, but we did have a good time and felt very cultured by the end of the evening.
As far as the rest of the weekend goes, we spent most of it stripping wallpaper. All I'll say about that is the top layer came off easily, the layer under it not so much. So I think we'll be scraping for quite some time. Anyone want to help?
We still miss you all and hope to have visitors soon!
