It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Hey All,
This weekend we finally decided we had put off our Christmas preparations long enough. It's been hard to get into the spirit because it didn't feel like winter yet. Up until last Thursday it had been 65 degrees and to be honest we were pretty bummed. We had been told all the ski resorts would be open by Thanksgiving, but it still hadn't snowed!
We aren't getting a Christmas tree this year either because we will be leaving for Illinois again in about a week, so we wouldn't be able to really enjoy it. Not that cutting down a tree in what feels like early fall would have seemed very Christmas-like either.
However, this weekend we were determined to make ourselves feels the joy of the season, so we put on some holiday music, mulled some apple cider, and baked some cookies. As long as we didn't look outside, it was beginning to feel like a holiday, which motivated us enough to work on our Christmas cards. Here is Susie baking cookies and Rachel folding letters. Which one do you think had the better job?

We had put up our Christmas lights on the outside of the house the day before, but it's hard to get a good picture of those. We'll keep trying though.
The next morning we attempted to make a another big holiday step in the right direction and went to church for the first time since we've moved. I know, we are very ashamed that it has taken us that long. The church was beautiful and they had a bell choir that started us off at 11:00 with O Come Emmanuel, which was wonderful. Then things went downhill from there. The passing of the peace (or the passing of the germs, as we like to call it) took 10 minutes because apparently we were the only ones there who weren't in walkers or on oxygen. Not exactly an active crowd. Then we sang the most awful hymns you've ever heard in your life. They were so bad, even the pastor (who is an interim) laughed and rolled her eyes during the last one. Finally we took communion, very slowly. It was almost 1:00 by the time we got home.
Better news came that evening when the weather channel predicted our first snow fall. It started late Sunday night and dropped about an inch on us, which wasn't even enough to cover the grass, but then it continued on Monday night, leaving us with about 4 inches! Here are some pictures!

And the best part is that we didn't have to shovel any of it! When we woke up on Tuesday the plow fairy had paid us a visit. Apparently one of our neighbors has a plow and just zipped over and plowed our driveway and sidewalks for us. These people are so nice that it's almost scary sometimes!
We are supposed to get about 3 or 4 more inches on Thursday, which makes us very excited because that means the ski places will open this week and we can start making plans to hit the slopes!
Hope you all are enjoying winter as much as we are!
