Around the Yard

In between all our trips this summer we've found a little time to make a few minor updates to our yard.

The progress started in the spring when we got two new trees. Both were gift for Jackson from when he was born but since you don't want to plant anything in Novemeber we had to wait until May to get them.

This one is a Red Bud and it is in our front yard. It won't get too big but it will be very pretty in the spring and fall each year.

This one is a Red Maple and it's in our back yard. It will get pretty big and eventually offer some nice shade for the back corner of our house.

We are looking forward to watching the trees grow along with Jackson over time.

We also planted a few fruit bushes around the yard. They haven't produced a whole lot yet but we've had a few handfulls of berries that we have used to make berry bruschetta. Here is our raspberry bush.
We've also got a blueberry bush on the side of the house that has given us several bunches of berries. They go great on ice cream.

Finally we planted an herb garden. We have viturally no "full sun" in our yard so we planned the herbs in a little stip of dirt between our driveway and the house. The only problem is that a lot of water runs off into that area.

The oregano was drown out but the parsley came up really well. We have tons of it!

We also have a pretty nice crop of sweet basil. We've been putting it in pasta sauces and on pizza but we've still got more than we can handle.

If you need any basil or parsley just let us know. We aren't sure how to store it other than to put it in pesto and freeze it and one can only eat so much pesto so we're open to suggestions.

In addion to developing our green thumbs we got a flag pole when we were in Illinois and put it on the house as soon as we got home.

We finished it off with (what else?) a new Cardinals flag.
