Lousville Part Duex
We've made it home safely from our latest round of travels and wanted to update everyone on all the fun we had. The next couple of posts will cover our trips to Louisville and Atlanta and then we'll give you a baby update.
On Tuesday, a few days into the AP reading we pulled together the Dan and Kelly, whom we hang out with every year, and Stacy, the newest member of our entourage, and the five of us went to a baseball game of the Louisville Bats.
The Louisville Bats are a minor league affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, and we didn't recognize any of the young up-and-comers, but we didn't care since it was $1 hot dog and soda night. It was also Kelly's first baseball game. Between the mix of her innocence and beer buzz, she gave us several good laughs. For instance, she was highly impressed with the pitcher "staring down the batter and sometimes shaking his head at him." It was a real let-down when we had to explain that he was looking for the signs from the catcher. Then when it was tied in the 9th, I leaned over to tell her we were "going to extra innings," and she grabbed her purse and said, "Ok! Where is that?" A good time was had by all!

On the way home we got to see some of the decorative horses they have spread around the city. Some of them are very impressive.
We wrapped up the evening by having dinner with Dan, Kelly, and Stacy, followed by a decadent dessert.

Later in the week we decided to check out the Louisville Slugger factory and museum. It was good fun. We got to see how they make the world-famous bats and learned a lot about the professional players and how the bats they use are specially made for each other them, taking into account their preferences. We even got to hold a bat that would be shipped out to Albert Pujols. We were very impressed with how light they are. At the end of the tour we got a miniature bat as a souvenir. The bat outside of the building was much more impressive, though; it was several stories high.
The next morning Rachel left for Atlanta and the GCLS Conference. Susie had another night in Louisville, and she finally got to meet Heather, Dan's wife. She was a delight! They enjoyed the English food at the Pub in 4th Street Live.
