Inaguration Day

President Obama's inauguration, and subsequently that last day of the Bush presidency, was a big day at our house. We've been looking forward to it for eight years, long before this picture was taken in Bloomington, IL at a fundraiser for Obama's senate primary in 2004.

We woke up feeling giddier than on Christmas and rushed downstairs to turn on the T.V., part of us not really able to believe it was happening. After eight years of being slammed and put down and legislated against, you get pretty used to being disappointed.

We shot videos and ate favorite foods and drank champagne. We shouted "See Ya!" to King George. Then all curled up together and cried our eyes out as we watched Obama become our president. You can see we got dressed up for the occasion.
Jackson could sense the excitement and clapped every time someone said "Obama." He even got to eat in the living room so he could watch President Obama's speech.

We know things aren't going to get better overnight and our problems are far from over, but for the first time in a long time we have a president who respects our family, and we're pretty darn excited about that!
