P-Town Part 1

In mid October we headed out for our first trip to Provincetown, MA, or Ptown. It was Women's Week, and Rachel had a full schedule of readings, signings and author events, so it was technically a work trip, but we also had plenty of fun.

We drove, so we spent the whole first day in the car. We left right after Jackson's swim lesson in Buffalo and drove for a few hours before the boy demanded a break. Thankfully, we stumbled upon a great park just outside of Syracuse.

We had our picnic lunch, and Jackie took a tour of the playground. It was a great chance to get out and stretch. There was also a gorgeous lake that we took a stroll over to see.

Jackson loves the water, so we let him crawl around and check things out in the hopes that he would wear himself out.

He is quite the little explorer, and he was happy with his break from the car, so he was an angel for the rest of the drive, both for the rest of that day and the next morning as we pulled into Ptown.

We stayed at a cute little condo just up a few blocks from the center of town so as soon as we got unpacked we made our first walk through town.

We immediately started running into people we knew. Ptown is one of those few places where Rachel got recognized on the street, so we also bumped into a few fans who were happy to see her but even happier to see Jackson.

The next day Rach got into the full swing of things with a reading and a signing. Apparently she is a very quiet reader, so her friend and fellow author Lisa had to hold a mic for her to be heard over by the 100 plus people in the audience.

Then she was off to the bookstore, where she signed books and got a chance to goof off with a bunch of her fellow authors. Once again, while everyone was happy to get caught up with Rach, they were just giddy about playing with Jackson. Lisa spent much of the afternoon telling Jackson she was "gonna bite his butt."

Her partner Susan also got the great treat of getting to play with Jackie when business picked up. We got one of our favorite pictures of the whole trip when she was showing him the harbor out the window of the book store.
