Jackson's First Birthday
Jackson is one!
Okay, so actually he's 13 months now, but it has taken us a whole month to recuperate from the fantastic birthday bash.
While Jackson took his morning nap, the Mommies, Will, Nana, and PawPaw all got the decorations up and the cake frosted. By the time Jackson came back downstairs, the living room looked like it was all set for a high school prom.

We got the little man all dressed up in his birthday outfit and pinned on his button that told the world he was "1 year old" just in case anyone could have missed that fact. He looked darling, of course, as he always does. Check out those blue eyes.

The guests began to arrive around noon and before we knew it, we had a house filled with kids, their parents and their cameras. Jackson has tons of friends, and they were all excited to help celebrate the big day.

The candle was put in the excellent cake that Susie and Will had made for the birthday boy, half chocolate, half vanilla.

We all sang Happy Birthday to the little prince sitting in his birthday throne, with balloons on either side. Then it was Jackson's big moment.

At first he wasn't sure what to do with the cake. It didn't look like anything he'd ever eaten before, and he kept giving us this look, as if to ask, "Really, you're not going to stop me from putting this in my mouth?"
Once he realized a) the cake was food, and b) we were actually going to let him eat it, he really got down to business by throwing that pesky plate out of the way and digging in with both hands.

It wasn't long before he had it all over his face, in his hair and up to his shirt sleeves. We were all laughing so hard we were crying.

After the cake it was time for presents, and the boy got more gifts than he even knew what to do with. He just kept going back and forth between toys and trying to check out everything at once. It all got to be a little overwhelming, so we turned on some music and the kids all got up to dance.

We never would have thought that a 1st birthday would turn into an excuse for a dance party, but it did. By the time the music stopped, all the kids were wiped out, and they all said their goodbyes before Jackson went up for a nice long nap.
During the nap time, the grown ups got to pick up a little and prepare for round two. The mommies spent much of the time putting together Jackson's birthday present from us.
When Jackie woke up, it was time for presents from the family. This time is was just Nana, PawPaw, and Big Papi Will.
By the end of the day, the kid was just exhausted, as was everyone else. He finally just crashed on the floor with PawPaw.

Jackson opened another whole load of presents, proving once again that he is totally spoiled. He kept wanting to stop and play with the toys, so it took a while to get through this set.
He really liked all his gifts and spend the rest of the afternoon moving from one to the other in a big circle of toys around the living room.

Gret pictures! Sorry to have missed the party, but it looks like quite the event for a 1 year old's birthday.
Miss you all!
