Toronto Trip
The last weekend in June is Pride weekend, when we commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. This year we celebrated by taking a trip up to Toronto. We parked in the 'burbs and took the subway in, which we decided is totally the way to go from now on because we got right into the heart of the city in under three hours.
Once we arrived, we headed to the Church of the Holy Trinity, which is a cool old Episcopalian church in the center of town. Rach did a reading as part of their Pride celebration service, and Susie and Jack found a quiet spot for the boy to take a nap.
Once the parade was over, we made a break for Chinatown. You see, the real reason we go to Toronto (or anywhere really), is for the food.

Jackie does not like tea.
Thankfully once our food came, the tea was forgotten. Susie got the duck, Rach got shrimp fried rice, and we all shared potstickers. We got enough food to last us for three days.

Jackson, who can be quite the picky eater, eyed the food skeptically, even pointing at the duck and asking "bok, bok?" until Rach loaded some onto the chopsticks for him to try . . .

and he liked it!
After the service it was pouring down rain, so we waiting in the mall for a while until it stopped enough to go outside. Unfortunately, by the time we got to the parade route, the place was packed and we didn't get to see much, but we did walk around the staging area a bit. Jackson got to see a few floats and some of the big police cruisers that were in the parade, which made him very happy.
This was Jackson's first trip to Chinatown, and therefore his first taste of authentic Chinese food. He was pretty into the whole experience. He recognized the chop sticks from the Japanese restaurant we had gone to in Louisville, but the teapot set off a whole new sequence of events that went something like this.
Mama likes tea.
(Classy, huh?)
Other Mama likes tea, too.
Jackie wants to try tea.

After dinner we walked back to the subway, but we each got a treat along the way. Rach found a crepery and got a chocolate banana crepe, and Susie found a teashop where she got a boba tea (milk tea with tapioca balls). Jackson had a little bit of both treats and loved them.
It was a great day and a reminder of why we need to visit our neighbor to the north more often!
