Our Garden

When we got home from North Carolina, we got right to work in our garden. We don't get any sunlight in our yard, so we are doing the garden community style with our friends Sarah and Andy (and their son Simon). We are using their yard and splitting labor and costs. The costs aren't bad, but the labor has been more than we expected.

The land was all covered in sod, so Rach and Andy spent an afternoon breaking it up, first with shovels and then with a tiller (We got tired of the shovel after a few hours).

Once we got all the dirt tilled up, we started planting. We planted onions, summer squash, yellow squash, acorn squash, spinach, iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce, strawberries, cantaloupe, red peppers, green peppers, snow peas, green beans, zucchini, and several types of tomatoes.

When we got everything in the ground, Jackson came along to help us with the watering. He has a little gardener set, and he used his watering can on all the vegetables as well as himself. His clothes didn't last long after his flash dance imitation where he dumped the whole bucket over his chest and did a little dance.

Doesn't he look like such a farm baby?

We got everything planted and of course we had a freeze the every next week, so we had to scramble to cover everything back up, but we think we fared pretty well. We're already eating strawberries out of the garden, and the lettuce is looking pretty tempting too.

Not bad for a bunch of first timers.
