Snow Shoe Day Three

We woke up on Wednesday to a beautiful snow-covered mountain. The skies were just slightly cloudy. We were feeling a little puny, so we hung around the room most of the morning in order to recoup, but by noon we were back on the slopes.

The high temp for the day was supposed to be somewhere around 20 degrees, so we were bundled up to the max (thanks for the new fleece shirts, Grandma and Grandpa Burris!), but once we got moving we were more than warm enough. Here is a picture of Will all covered from head to toe. We decided not to mess around with the main basin at all that day and instead we went right to the Silver Creek area.

We hit the Cubb Run and Greenhorn all afternoon. Then we would take the Cascade lift up and ride Knife Blade on down. Due to all the fresh power and the snow guns making piles along way we got pretty good at timing the larger bumps so we could get a little bit of air.

That evening Will cooked us some wonderful red sauce chicken noodle soup and we decided to head back out to Silver Creek for a night of snow tubing. Let me tell you, if you ever want to feel like a kid again you should definitely go snow tubing. You flop into a big inner tube that gets hooked onto a rope and towed up the hill. From there you get to pick one of several lanes and then while sitting in or on the tube, you go hurtling down the hill. There is no way to steer the tube; you just spin whatever way the wind takes you until you reach the back stop. If you are going fast enough you can even make it all the way up and touch the stop. We had a blast, laughing and spinning down the hill. We hooked our tubes together so all three of us could go down at once, combining the momentum of our weight to pick up more speed. The picture above is not the hill we were one, but it's pretty similar.

After going down the hill a few times we noticed a little boy that was desperately wanting to go faster and further, but his little body just wasn't heavy enough to weigh him down. We introduced ourselves and offered to let him tie on with us. Caleb (as he called himself) was delighted at the prospect of making it all the way to the back stop and hopped in with us immediately. When Rach asked if he was ready he answered with the quote of the trip by enthusiastically saying "I was BORN ready!" With that we took off faster than Caleb had ever gone before. He was hooting and hollering the whole way down and we were laughing our heads off. Here is a better picture of what the tubes look like.

It was a good thing we made that first run a good one, because Caleb then proceeded to run right into the next lane, almost getting plowed by his dad who was rolling full speed in our direction. From then on Caleb had to stay with his parents :( At least we had fun while it lasted.

It was a great night, and we tubed until they closed the lift on us. I have a feeling that tubing will become a new staple in our winter vacations from here on out.
